About the race

Slowpokes Run Club organizes Christie Cross Country at Christie Pits Park in Toronto. This is the third annual running of a cyclocross-style event held on the cyclocross course at night.

The course is roughly 3 km per lap and is run in the dark. It includes sand pits, barriers, off-camber turns and a notable hill. Participants run the bike course on foot the evening before the bike race.

There are three heats; distances and formats include:

  • Party Laps : 3 km non-competitive
  • Cash Laps : 6 km competitive, $10 cash entry
  • Beer Lap : 3 km competitive, 19+ with three on-course beers and non-alcoholic options

Race rules and logistics include mandatory headlamps, a required waiver for all racers, and a strong recommendation to use trail shoes. Costumes are required in spirit and a prize is awarded for best costume. Prizes are given for the top three men and women in the Beer Lap; winners take home a seasonal trophy called The Brick, which must be returned the following year.

A shoe demo is provided on site. The event description notes beer supplied for the Beer Lap and acknowledges event partners. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
