Chiltern Ridge Classic 50K
The Chiltern Ridge Classic is a 50K trail ultramarathon in the Chiltern Hills covering approximately 996m+ of ascent. The route starts at Berkhamsted Castle and finishes at Hampden Meadow in Wendover, following sections of the Ridgeway National Trail and passing Ivinghoe Beacon, Ashridge Estate, Coombe Hill and Whiteleaf Hill.
The first part of the course runs through the Ashridge Estate and joins the Ridgeway after about 10 km. The route includes undulating ridgeline trails, ancient woodlands and multiple viewpoints as it progresses toward Wendover and loops back to complete the distance.
The course is fully marked with orange signage and supported by marshals at key points. A digital GPX file and printed maps are provided, and three main checkpoints are on course: Pitstone Hill at 14.3 km, Hampden Meadow in Wendover at 29.6 km, and Monks Risborough Cricket Pavilion at 41.8 km. Checkpoints offer water, Coke, electrolyte drink, gels and chews, snacks and fruit, with sandwiches available at the second and third checkpoints. This is a cupless event so runners must carry a collapsible cup or bottle.
Additional event details: the race has a 9 hour time limit, a maximum field of 400 runners, a minimum entry age of 20 years, coach transfers pre and post race, and holds UTMB World Series index status for the 50K category. The event is licensed by the Trail Running Association and held under UKA rules. Mandatory kit includes a mobile phone, route GPX plus paper map, a light jacket or emergency blanket, refillable hydration of at least 0.5L, a collapsible cup and payment method.
