Challenge the Shield Adventure Run
The Challenge the Shield Adventure Run is a team points race held near Parry Sound, Ontario on May 1-2, 2027. The weekend includes optional adventure running training and a Team Canada Orienteering Challenge on May 1, and the Adventure Run on May 2 at the Georgian Nordic Outdoor Activity Centre.
Teams of two run or trek to as many of 36 checkpoint challenges as they choose across windswept pines, lakes and granite rock barrens. Each checkpoint has a difficulty rating and a points value; teams choose which checkpoints to attempt. The course is points based and choose-your-own-adventure in format. Three hour participants may opt to use a GPS map app to assist navigation.
Race distances include:
- 6-hour Adventure Run - up to 36 checkpoints, ~35 km, maximum 2500 points.
- 3-hour Adventure Run - up to 20 checkpoints, ~17.5 km, maximum 1250 points.
Categories include Coed, Male, Female and Masters for the 6-hour race, and Open, Juniors (ages 13-19) and Family (1 adult plus 1 to 3 children under 13) for the 3-hour race; age is determined as of December 31, 2027.
Awards and recognition include first-place prizes by category, a rotating mascot for the overall coed winners, and CTS stickers for teams reaching 1000, 1500 and 2000 points. Teams that reach exactly 2500 points are noted as completing Ontario's Toughest Navigation Race.
Entry is per team of two with a 100 team cap; family teams may include 2 to 4 members. Fees are listed by early, regular and late deadlines and junior teams are half price. Entry includes taxes, two copies of customized race maps, host site day-use fees, customized race swag, a participation sticker, a post-race pizza per team, and a 2027 Challenge the Shield Parry Sound membership. An event guide is scheduled for mid April 2027. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
