Chakchiuma Swamp Challenge
The Chakchiuma Swamp Challenge is a 24 hour endurance event held January 16–17, 2027 at Lee Tartt Nature Preserve in Grenada, Mississippi. The course is a 4.167 mile loop through the preserve. The event is organized by Friends of Chakchiuma with support from volunteers and community supporters. It accepts runners and walkers.
Three event formats are offered: Ultra Challenge, AM Challenge, and PM Challenge. The Ultra follows a backyard ultra style: participants must complete the 4.167 mile loop within each hour to continue, and may keep going for as many as 24 hours. Milestones and awards are offered at 50 miles and 100 miles.
Distances and examples
- 4.167-mile loop
- 8.334 miles for two loops
- Approximately 100 miles for a full 24 hour Ultra
The AM and PM Challenges allow participants to attempt one loop and, if successful within the hour, a second loop. PM participants who will be on course after dark must bring appropriate lighting. The event is cupless, so participants must provide their own reusable cup or hydration container. Participants and crews may set up personal tents and support areas in designated locations near the start and finish corral. Online registration closes January 15, 2027, and registering by January 2, 2027 guarantees an event shirt in the preferred size. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
