About the race
The Cederberg Backyard Ultra is an endurance event held at Jamaka Organic Farm & Resort in the Cederberg near Clanwilliam, Western Cape, South Africa. Runners complete a repeated mountain loop of 7.8 km with about 430 m of elevation. Participants aim to complete fifteen consecutive loops run at 90-minute intervals, a total of 22.5 hours of continuous laps. If more than one runner reaches the optional 16th loop, a final footrace between those remaining determines the winner; only runners who have completed all required loops are eligible to win.
The race village provides a designated start and finish area for refuelling, hydration, and resting between loops, plus a shared camping spot included with runner entries. Camping for supporters is available but requires a separate camping ticket. The course is marked and prepared for mountain terrain, with aid station support, sweepers, marshalls, and medical support on site. Finishers receive a medal and there is a post-race awards celebration. A portion of ticket sales is donated to Sustainable Ceder to support cedar restoration efforts in the Cederberg. All participants must be 18 years or older on race day. Quiet hours apply in the evening and there are no refunds or deferrals for the portion of the ticket designated for the sustainability partner.
