Catherine's Fat Ass 50k
Catherine's Fat Ass is a roughly 50 km trail run on the southern Massanutten range, named for a nearby historic iron furnace. The course distance is 29.75 miles and the route includes approximately 5,700 feet of total ascent and descent. The event starts at the Route 211 east trailhead and is scheduled for Sat Jul 25, 2026.
The marked course mixes rocky climbs, wooded singletrack, mossy creek beds, and well maintained dirt and gravel roads, with several overlooks. The route includes six aid stations located at Bird Knob, Catherine's Furnace (two stops at this location), Morgan Run, and Pitt Spring. Two of the aid stations are water only; the other four are fully stocked. Aid stations are partly supplied by the runners, who are assigned items to contribute to the common aid.
Entry for this edition is closed. Historically the field is opened one month before the event with a limited number of initial entries and a chronological wait list used if the field fills.
Runners are required to remain on the marked course; if a runner leaves the course they must report to an aid station and drop out. The organizing club does not provide medical personnel or medical supplies on course. Participants are responsible for their own health and safety and should be prepared for remote conditions and trail hazards. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
