Castle to Castle Ultra - Carrickfergus

This event in March 2027 links Carrickfergus Castle and Belfast Castle and offers two distance options.

Distances

  • 52.4 mile Ultra
  • Marathon

Both routes cross the same three hills: Knockagh, Carnmoney Hill and Cavehill, and finish beside Carrickfergus Castle. The ultra starts at Carrickfergus Castle, runs to Belfast Castle and returns along the same route. The marathon starts at Belfast Castle and finishes at Carrickfergus Castle. The course includes a mix of trail, footpaths, road and forest paths and features repeated climbs with views across Belfast Lough.

Competitors are fully tracked and the organiser provides water refill only stops and aid stations along the route. The ultra offers an option for a drop bag at the turnaround. Entrants will receive full GPX route details closer to the event; there will be no additional signage or marshals on course and participants must follow the GPS file on their watch or phone.

Participants must be self sufficient and carry mandatory kit, including a charged mobile phone, a waterproof jacket, an emergency foil blanket and a bag or pack to carry these items. Bottled water and cups are not supplied; runners must carry refillable water bottles. Cut off times are 14 hours for the ultra and 7 hours for the marathon.

Entry includes full medical cover throughout the event, official timing, a bespoke medal, post race refreshments and event insurance. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
