Inverary Station, Mount Somers : Canterbury Winter Trail Run Series
Inverary Station is the fourth and final event in the 2026 series, held near Mount Somers on 9 August 2026. The venue sits about 15 minutes west of Mount Somers Village at the base of the Moorhouse and Peter Ranges. The terrain includes rocky trails, open tussock and matagouri country, multiple creek crossings on the longer routes, and long climbs that offer views toward the surrounding ranges, Mount Somers, and the Ashburton Lakes.
Course options:
- Slope Sprint : 6.3 km, 210 m elevation
- Midi Mountains : 10 km, 360 m elevation
- Epic Endurance : 19.7 km, 670 m elevation
Course details note rocky tracks, repeated creek crossings on Blondini Stream and Little Hinds Stream, tussock and side-creek sections, and single-track descents back toward the finish. Weather may alter the exact course and GPS tracks can be inaccurate, so course markings take precedence.
Compulsory gear requirements vary by distance but commonly include a fully waterproof seam-sealed jacket with hood, a charged mobile phone, recorded personal medication, appropriate thermal layers, and sufficient capacity to carry water and nutrition. The Epic course additionally requires an emergency survival bag. Participants may face random gear checks and failure to carry compulsory items can lead to withdrawal.
Aid stations serve the Midi and Epic courses, providing electrolyte drink and water, with no disposable cups supplied. The event village is at Quarry Road, Surrey Hills on private land, and food for sale will be available from the fundraising group, cash only. The series awards spot prizes on event days and series prizes to top three male and female finishers by age group and distance, with a series prizegiving on 28 August 2026 at Christchurch Adventure Park.
