Burrator Noir
Burrator Noir is a night running event at the Discovery Centre, Burrator Reservoir. It offers trail and road races around the reservoir and nearby moorland and forestry.
The event includes:
- 12 miles trail route on moorland, plantation, leats, rocky paths and disused railway lines
- 10k flat road run around the reservoir perimeter
- 1K and 2K kids races for younger runners
The trail route follows forested paths from the Discovery Centre, along gnarly tacks through open moorland toward Nun’s Cross, then toward Princetown. The route continues on an old disused railway near Foggintor Quarry and returns via the trail behind Ingra Tor and through the leatside plantation. The 10k course is described as flat and fast around the reservoir perimeter.
Practical details noted by the organiser include a baggage area at the event headquarters, course signing cleared by route sweepers, and medals offered as an optional add on at registration. A head torch is required for both main races, with specific kit lists for each race: the 12 mile list includes spare batteries, long-sleeved top, collapsible cup, mobile phone and waterproof jacket; the 10k list includes a head torch, mobile phone and road shoes. Road shoes are not appropriate for the trail race. Dogs are permitted only on the road 10k. Organisers note there will be no disposable cups at feed stations.
