Buckeye Ultra 200 Mile Road Race
The Buckeye 200 is an approximately 203 mile out-and-back road run from Walnut Beach at Lake Erie to Wellsville, OH, near the Ohio-West Virginia border. The course largely follows Ohio route 45 and may see minor changes before the event. Total climb is just under 6,000 ft, with long flat sections and roughly 70 miles of rolling hills. The route passes mountain foothills, post-steel industry towns, Amish country, and lakefront streets.
This is an open-road challenge with no official aid stations. Crews are encouraged because resources are limited overnight on some sections, but crew support is not required. Many runners complete the course self-supported. Participants who cannot finish must self-extract; transportation back to a vehicle may require a wait. Stores, diners, and shops are generally available between 6am and about 9–10pm. Several towns along the course have hotels within a few minutes' walk; towns listed include Austinburg, Warren, Salem, and Lisbon.
There is a 6 day time limit for the 203 mile challenge, which requires an average of about 34 miles per day. A 100 mile option finishes at Walnut Beach and has a 48 hour cutoff; runners using that option must provide their own transportation to its start location in Wellsville. Finishers receive a large Buckeye 200 buckle, a unique finisher award, and other items. There are no refunds, deferrals, or transfers.
Additional awards include a 500 mile lifetime buckle for completing 500 official miles, and a new 1000 mile award introduced in 2027 earned through official 100 and/or 200 mile finishes. Course records stand at 50:10:05 (men) and 58:08:36 (women); breaking a record earns a cash prize and free entry to a future Buckeye event.
