GPS Cross Country 5K
The BRRC GPS 5K Cross Country takes place at Herring Run Park in Baltimore. The event is free to enter; donations are accepted for a scholarship fund for college freshmen or for the Friends of Herring Run Parks. This race is listed as the final GPS event of the year.
The course uses an XC style start with extended field running early in the route. The layout deviates from local high school courses and includes a mix of paved sections, open field running and technical single-track. Road shoes are acceptable for much of the course, but some technical sections may benefit from trail shoes. The route crosses the river twice and runs through wooded areas.
The documented start location is along Belair Road on the Chesterfield side near the muraled shed at coordinates 39.326448, -76.568350. Participants typically park on Belair or Chesterfield Road and walk to the start area near the Herring Run Bridge on the Chesterfield side, upstream of the bridge.
Course navigation requires attention due to many turns in a compact area; volunteers are noted as needed to assist with direction and safety. Route details are available from the organizer. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
