BRR Training Run #1: The South

This is the first of three winter training runs preparing runners for the Bull Run Run 50 Miler held in April. The route starts at Fountainhead Regional Park and follows downstream sections of the Bull Run Occoquan Trail, using the blue blazed BROT for most of the course.

The training run covers 15.5 miles with about 1,500 feet of total ascent and descent. The course begins with a loop of nearly two miles on a white blazed Fountainhead connector trail, then proceeds primarily on blue blazed singletrack in an out and back format. The turnaround point is at Bull Run Marina, located at roughly eight miles from the start. The Baby Bull #1 route will be minimally marked and otherwise relies on blaze markings on the trails. Minimal aid will be available at the marina aid station, primarily water.

Past Baby Bull runs have attracted several dozen participants with a range of paces. Sections of the course are not described as particularly difficult to follow, but trail blazing and basic route awareness will be needed. This event takes place in remote areas and involves trail running risks. No medical staff or medical supplies are provided by the club for this event; participants are responsible for their own health and emergency care. In case of an emergency, organizers will attempt to contact local emergency personnel. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
