Snakebite 10K & 20K

Snakebite is a trail race held at McDowell Mountain Regional Park near Fountain Hills, AZ. The event offers two distances on well-traveled hiking trails that follow marked routes on the Verde, Pemberton, Escondido, and Minx trails. The 20K is two loops of the course. Runners should watch for snakes and other desert wildlife.

Distances

  • 10K
  • 20K (two loops)

Aid and support include a staffed aid station on course at approximately the 3-mile mark, water, Gu products, Coke, and some food items; 20K runners pass the aid station twice. Participants may carry their own water and may leave a drop bag at the start/finish area. Sunscreen and medications such as ibuprofen are not provided.

Logistics note an entrance fee of $10 per vehicle to enter the park. Camping at the Youth Group Campground the night before is available for a gate charge of $15 per camper or tent; the campground area is used for packet pick-up and the start/finish area, located at the far north end of the park. Allow extra travel time to reach that area from park entrances.

Cutoff policies apply: a 4-hour overall cutoff with a required first-loop time of 1.5 hours or less. The event is Race #3 in the McDowell Mountain Cup series and awards overall, Masters, and Super Masters winners. Course records are listed for the 10K and 20K distances.
