About the race
The Blythedale Trail Run is a seaside-to-forest trail event on the KwaZulu-Natal North Coast held on Sunday, 20 September 2026. The courses start at the coast near Grumpy’s Bush and Beach Restaurant and move from beachside running into indigenous coastal forest, riverside singletrack and pockets of sugarcane farmland.
Three loop course options are offered:
- 18 km long course exploring coastal forests, river valleys and rolling hills.
- 11 km medium course mixing runnable singletrack and steady climbs.
- 5 km short course with a compact seaside start and a sustained climb through shaded forest.
Each course includes flowing singletrack, dirt roads and shaded forest sections with views toward the Mdlotane Estuary and the ocean. Elevation varies by distance, with the long course giving the greatest cumulative climb and the short course the least. Aid stations are provided on all courses (number varies by distance). There is no compulsory kit requirement and routes may be subject to change. Pets are permitted on a leash if fully vaccinated. The event venue is the Blythedale event area adjacent to Grumpy’s Bush and Beach Restaurant. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
