About the race
The Blouklip Trail Run is a trail race based at Waterford Wine Estate in Stellenbosch that follows the Blouklip River and routes toward the Helderberg and Stellenbosch mountains, passing several wineries and indigenous tree stands.
Routes visit De Trafford Wines, Keermont and parts of Lourensford with single-track sections, vineyard edges and river crossings. Start and finish are at Waterford Estate and route profiles include climbing and technical trail under tree canopies; one old bridge is noted on the course.
Distances and approximate elevation gains:
- 8 km : 250 m elevation
- 15 km : 700 m elevation
- 25 km : 1 450 m elevation (may be increased)
Compulsory items and event services include hydration packs required for the 15 km and 25 km options, a rain jacket and charged phone, and aid stations on all routes. Parking at the venue is limited and there are no on-the-day entries; registration is by online entry only. Dogs are not allowed and substitutions or cancellations are not accepted less than seven days before the event.
After the run there are wine stands, food trucks and live music at Waterford Estate for participants and spectators to use while on site. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
