Black Cattle Ultra Gwartheg Duon
A point-to-point trail ultra held along the Cambrian Way in South Wales, finishing at Cardiff Harlequins RFC in Radyr. The event offers two route options and follows public rights of way across upland and wooded terrain.
- 44 miles (71K) starting at Llanthony Priory
- 33 miles (53K) starting in Abergavenny
The route passes a series of local landmarks and varied terrain, including Llanthony Abbey, Pen-y-Fal (Sugarloaf), Twmbarlwm, Mynydd Machen and Castell Coch. Runners will encounter climbs, woodland paths, moorland and a mix of waymarked and unmarked sections.
Both courses require self-navigation; competitors follow Cambrian Way markers and the Taff Trail on the final approach to the finish. GPX files are provided. The event includes live tracking, a professional medical team, professional timing, a photographer, and a locally sourced finisher’s memento.
Support on course comprises three indoor aid stations for the 44 mile route and two for the 33 mile route, with additional water points approximately every six miles. Indoor aid stations are located at Abergavenny Community Centre, Pontypool Pontymoil Church and Machen. There is a kit check at registration and a mandatory kit list; entries without required kit are not permitted.
The event is organised by Ridge Runners, a not-for-profit group run by volunteers, and includes awards for top finishers and measures to support female participation. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
