Black Bear Trail Races : Waterville Valley, NH
Black Bear Trail Races take place in Waterville Valley Town Square, New Hampshire. The event offers multiple trail distances that start and finish at the town square and use nearby White Mountain trails and ski-area networks.
- 50K Ultra - around 30.8 miles with about 7,700 feet elevation gain.
- 23K - runs on the oldest maintained trail network in the US with mixed terrain.
- 4 Mile - trail-only route with about 600 feet of elevation gain, no road.
- 1 Mile Fun Run - family-friendly double-track course; children under 13 may run free with registration.
The 50K circumnavigates 4,000-foot peaks and includes multiple aid stations; participants must carry required gear for the 50K such as a minimum 2 liters of fluids, 400 calories of food, a windbreaker or rain shell, a space or emergency blanket, and a headlamp with extra batteries. Aid stations across distances are cup-less, so runners need their own hydration system.
Parking is available in lots adjacent to the Town Square complex at 33 Village Road. Crews and pacers are not allowed on course; crews may gather at the finish village. Drop bags are permitted at the start/finish area. All finishers receive a commemorative award and there are podium awards for the top three male and female finishers in each distance.
