Black Bear Trail Races

The Black Bear Trail Races take place in Waterville Valley, New Hampshire on August 29, 2026, and are organized by White Mountain Endurance. Events start and finish at the Waterville Valley Town Square and use nearby White Mountain trail networks.

Distances include:

  • 50K Ultra around 30.8 miles with roughly 7,700 feet of cumulative elevation gain.
  • 23K on historic maintained trails near 4,000 foot peaks.
  • 4 Mile on forest and stream trails with no road.
  • 1 Mile Fun Run for families on double-track trail.

The 50K includes multiple aid stations, a cupless policy at aid stations, and a required gear check that lists items such as a headlamp, 2 liters of fluids minimum, emergency blanket, 400 calories of food, and a phone with the GPX track. Aid stations for other distances will offer water, a hydration supplement, and nutrition; participants should plan to carry their own hydration system since disposable cups are not provided.

Crews and pacers are not allowed on course; crews may be present at the finish village. Drop bags are allowed at the start/finish. All finishers who complete their registered course receive a commemorative award, and podium awards are given to the top three male and female finishers in each distance. Parking is available in lots adjacent to Town Square. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
