Bike Low Carbon Race Ticknock
The Bike & Bus Low Carbon Race at Ticknock is a marked mountain running event on a 6.70 km senior course with 330 m of ascent and a shorter junior course of about 3.20 km. The event difficulty is rated 6 (2,2,2), indicating moderate terrain and a distance in the 6–10 km band. GPS devices are not allowed.
The senior route starts behind the Blue Light pub, climbs past a small quarry onto singletrack, proceeds toward the masts area, ascends to Fairy Castle via a tractor path, drops toward the waymarked waypoint into forest, loops back to the tractor path and returns to the quarry. The junior course uses the first 1.5 km of the out-and-back section to the masts area and then turns back.
Race organisers require Level A basic kit including a showerproof, windproof jacket; runners must be able to carry the kit if requested. The route is fully marked and random kit checks may be carried out. There is no on-site car parking at the immediate race location; participants are expected to use public transport, cycle, or walk. Public carparks at Fernhill and Ticknock are available with a walk or run to registration, which is held at the Blue Light. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
