About the race
The Day of the Dead Half Marathon - Houston is a multi-distance running event held at Kingdom Builders Center and nearby parks and green belts. The event includes in-person and virtual options and uses mixed course surfaces such as pavement, crushed granite, and occasional dirt paths. Aid stations are located along the course and volunteers support course monitoring and aid stations. A pre-race costume contest invites participants to display Day of the Dead themed outfits and painted faces; a panel of judges evaluates creativity, authenticity, and overall impact and awards a prize before the race.
A post-race rally tent features live music, a DJ, food and drink with Mexican treats, and live awards presentation. Event awards include trophies for overall male and female winners, special recognition pins for masters, and age-group pins through multiple categories. Volunteer opportunities are offered in two ways: a "Volunteer then Run" option that includes a chip-timed bib, a tee, and a finisher medal; and full race volunteer positions that provide a race shirt, souvenir medal if available, VIP access, and a choice of a free future race entry or a $20 prepaid digital gift card. Packet pickup is available starting 1.5 hours before the event.
Shirt sizes are guaranteed up to 10 days before the event. The event has a no-refund policy but allows transfers to virtual, another event, or to another participant. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
