About the race
Big Wolf’s Backyard Ultra – Cacouna is run in a backyard ultra last-one-standing format on a loop of 6.70 km with about 52 m of positive elevation. The loop follows a gravel path that rolls through fields, a marsh, a wooded area and crosses by a river. The same loop is used both day and night.
The event site sits between the municipalities of Cacouna and L’Isle-Verte at Quai de Cacouna Est and includes a large open area that provides views of the St. Lawrence River. Participants start from the heliport runway. The location can feel hot in summer daytime and may become humid and cool at night; a river breeze can reduce mosquitoes at times.
Runners are fully responsible for their own food and hydration; only water is provided on site. Other athletes may set up in the large communal tent with a chair, bag and cooler. Each runner may be accompanied by one support person who must wear an identifying badge while circulating on site.
Required equipment listed for participants includes a chair, a survival blanket (160 cm x 200 cm), food and hydration for the event (8 litres at the start), a headlamp with spare battery of at least 150 lumens, a maximum of one standard box plus one small cooler per runner, and a waterproof raincoat.
