Big River Unpaved
Big River Unpaved is a free, beginner friendly trail running and hiking program that runs in the Fall 2026 season from October 11 through December 20. Sessions take place on Sunday mornings and use a variety of trails throughout the St Louis metro area; some trail locations are a 30 to 60 minute drive from the city and mid-county. A trail demo is scheduled for Saturday, October 3, and a participant orientation will be scheduled at a later date. The deadline to purchase a program shirt is Sunday, October 18.
The program is organized into multiple running and hiking groups to accommodate different paces. Guides will support most groups, help participants stay found on the trails, and share information about trail etiquette and technique. Hiking Guides aim to support a pace of approximately 2.5 miles per hour, or about 24:00 per mile; participants who wish to hike slower may attend but could be hiking without Guide support. Ruckers are welcome.
For safety, minors must be accompanied by a guardian for the duration of any trail excursion. A weekly newsletter will provide registered participants with updates and educational content. Registration for the Fall 2026 season is listed as closed. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
