About the race
The Big Burro 24HR is a 24 hour timed trail race held on the Maple Hills Trail System in Big Bear City, CA. Runners complete as many laps as possible on an approximately 5 mile loop over a continuous 24 hour period, beginning in the evening and continuing overnight into the next day.
The course uses existing trails and features a mix of runnable singletrack, punchy climbs, rocky sections, and fast descents typical of Big Bear mountain terrain. Each lap returns runners to the Start/Finish basecamp.
Aid is provided at the Start/Finish basecamp, Shore Drive Aid Station, and Elementary Trailhead Aid Station. The Start/Finish area houses primary aid, timing, crew access, medical support, and race operations. Crew access is permitted from the Start/Finish area only.
The event includes a 100 mile challenge called the Burro Hundred, which requires twenty full laps within the 24 hour limit. Burro Hundred finishers receive an official belt buckle, recognition on the finisher list, and lifetime membership in the Burro Hundred Club. Awards are presented to the top overall male and female finishers.
Organizers coordinate a volunteer trail work day before race weekend, will remove course markings after the event, and donate five dollars from every entry to the Bear Valley Education Foundation for trail maintenance and improvements. The inaugural running will establish course records for overall laps and the Burro Hundred. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
