Big Breton Backyard Ultra 2026
The Big Breton Backyard Ultra is a backyard ultra running event held in Sydney, Nova Scotia, at the Coxheath Mountain Trail (Access Road entrance). The 2026 edition is the fourth running of the event and is scheduled for September 12, 2026.
The race uses a 6.7 km loop route along the access road and the Northern Loop before returning to the start. The backyard ultra format requires competitors to complete the loop within one hour; each loop begins exactly one hour after the previous start. The winner is the last runner to complete a full loop while all others are recorded as DNF if they fail to match that distance. If no runner completes one more loop than all others, there is no winner. The race is open ended.
Specific rules include a required loop length of 6.7056 kilometers, no artificial aids including trekking poles, no personal aid while on a loop with common aid stations allowed, and that competitors may not leave the course during a loop except for restroom use. Slow runners must allow passes. Timing of individual loops is optional.
Entry fee is listed as 50.00 CAD and includes a custom BBBYU tee and entry into a draw prize; a processing fee of 2.00 CAD is shown. Cash prizes for 2026 are listed as 750 CAD for the winner and 250 CAD for the assist. Registrations show 15 entries with room for additional participants. Registration closes September 11, 2026.
