About the race

Beyond Manchester features two mapped trail events that start and finish at Cathedral Gardens, Corporation Street, Manchester M4 3BG (What3Words ///haven.drag.preoccupied). Both routes move from central Manchester into canalside and greenbelt areas before returning to the city centre.

Distances

  • 55 km Ultra route through city canals, suburbs, Bolton, Bury, Irwell Sculpture Trail.
  • 25 km Trail run through city, Salford Quays, Bridgewater Canal, Eccles and River Irwell.

The 55 km route goes from Cathedral Gardens to the Manchester Ship Canal, follows the canal south through Salford Quays past the BBC buildings, crosses to the Bridgewater Canal, passes the Imperial War Museum North and Old Trafford, continues through Eccles onto a disused railway, then heads north through outer suburbs to Bolton and east toward Bury. It includes over 10 km on the Irwell Sculpture Trail before returning into the city centre via historic streets and civic buildings.

The 25 km route follows a similar city-to-canal line through Salford Quays, past the Imperial War Museum North and Old Trafford, then west through Eccles to the River Irwell and back into Manchester city centre.

Event services include bespoke finisher medals, Wild Deer merchandise, fully signed routes, chip timing, GPX files, medical support, finish line refreshments and feed stations (three on the 55 km route, one on the 25 km route). A bag drop is available at registration. Public transport is the recommended way to reach the start. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
