Best of the West
Best of the West takes place on September 18, 2027 at West Branch State Park Beach on Marina Drive in Ravenna, Ohio. The event offers trail distances held entirely on park trails and shoreline paths.
The race celebrates a new section of the Buckeye Trail at West Branch State Park. The Buckeye Trail section has been designated a State Trail by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources and is the third trail to receive this recognition. The new section is the first of more to come.
West Branch State Park is predominantly forested with a mix of deciduous and coniferous trees, primarily oak-hickory. The park provides habitat for deer, foxes, raccoons, squirrels, pheasant, and songbirds. The dense canopy produces shade and cooler temperatures in warmer months.
Course layouts differ by distance. Marathoners run around the eastern end of the lake, cross the dam, continue to the campground entrance, and return to the beach. Half marathoners finish at a turnaround point and are transported by shuttle back to the finish area at the beach. The 10k follows an all-trail out-and-back from the beach to the dam and back.
