Beast of Big Creek Skyrace
Beast of Big Creek is a mountain skyrunning event on Mount Ellinor in the Olympic Mountains near Hoodsport, Washington. It includes a summit skyrace and a shorter forest loop held over late July and early August 2027. The event is part of the Skyrunner World Series and the USA Skyrunner National Series and is organized by Rock Candy Running.
The main Skyrace follows steep trail from near sea level to the true summit of Mount Ellinor and back on a different return route. Key course facts include a distance of 24 km (15 miles) and about 1,600 m (5,300 ft) of vertical gain. The high point is near 5,944 ft at about 7 miles. Aid station access is at mile 5.4 and mile 8.4; there is no aid at the summit turnaround. Cutoff guidance asks participants to finish the Skyrace in roughly 6 hours, with an option to start 30 minutes early by arrangement.
The Forest Loop runs on the Big Creek trail through rainforest, about 10 km (6 miles) with roughly 365 m (1,200 ft) of elevation change and several wooden bridge crossings; its suggested finish time is about 2 hours.
Additional details: cupless zero-waste policy, required 500 ml water flask for Skyrace, poles allowed, course markings and safety support provided, post-race refreshments and participant items, prize money funded by the Skyrunner World Series, and a tree planted for each finisher.
