About the race

The 2nd Annual Backyard Ultra (Lite) is presented by Caledonia Nordic Race Teams and takes place on Sunday October 25 in Otway (8141 Otway Rd). The event is a fundraiser for the CNSC Race Teams and offers two competition classes: Recreation and Almost an Ultra.

The Recreation class is open as a solo entry (age 14 and over) or as a two-person relay team (age 12 and over). Each runner in a relay completes four loops in any order. Loops are 3.35 km and the required finish time for each loop decreases by one minute each lap, starting at 30 minutes and ending at 23 minutes. The number of loops is capped at eight, for a maximum distance of 26.8 km. Prizes will be awarded to the first male and female across the line in the Recreation class and to the first relay team; other category prizes and draw prizes are scheduled. Finish-line snacks and drinks will be provided. The event includes music, food, and an opportunity to try biathlon (eco aim).

The Almost an Ultra class is open to participants aged 16 and over and continues after the Recreation classes finish. The time available per lap continues to drop by one minute each lap. Winners are the last male and female to complete a lap, or the first across the line on the final lap that participants agree to run. Ages are determined as of December 31, 2026, and teams may be mixed ages and genders.

Registration closes Oct 24. Early pricing and on-site registration details apply. Entry fees listed are $30 Recreation solo, $50 Recreation team, and $50 Almost an Ultra. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
