Back On The Ranch Trail Run

The Back On The Ranch Trail Run is a multi-day endurance event held at the private Sand Creek Ranch in Los Olivos, California. This ninth annual event features a variety of timed formats where participants aim to complete as many laps as possible within their chosen duration. The race takes place on a loop course that measures 3.4 miles with approximately 433 feet of vertical gain per lap. The running surface consists of approximately 95% dirt, utilizing a blend of hard-pack dirt roads and soft single-track trails.

The event offers several participation options:

  • 48 hour
  • 24 hour
  • 12 hour (daytime or night-time segments)
  • 6 hour
  • 3 hour

A well-stocked aid station and support are available to runners every 3.4 miles. Participants also have access to their personal camps during the event. Registration includes a custom souvenir t-shirt and a finishers amulet. Awards are provided for the top male and female in each division, and participants who complete 100 miles in the 24 hour or 48 hour events receive a Western-style trophy buckle.

Free parking and primitive camping are provided on-site without the need for reservations. Dispersed campsites are available on a first-come basis, and participants may set up camp anywhere along the race course. The site accommodates tent camping, car camping, RVs, and trailers, though no hook-ups or running water are available. The ranch gate opens for participants on the Thursday preceding the weekend events. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
