Avebury8 Nine
The Avebury8 Nine is a trail race of about 9 miles held as Race #5 of the Wiltshire Off Road Race League (WORRL). It starts and finishes at Avebury. The start is on Bray Street; the route runs north to Yatesbury Lane, passes through Yatesbury, and returns along Avebury High Street to finish next to the club house.
Trail surfaces vary with the season. Organisers expect a mix of chalk tracks, uneven ruts, short tarmac stretches and various footpaths. In November conditions can include mud and puddles after autumn rains. The route includes a traverse of neolithic Windmill Hill followed by a downhill section toward the fields and back to Avebury village. The course is described as not too hilly but challenging.
The event is licensed by the Association of Running Clubs (ARC) and held under UK Athletics Rules. Participants must be aged 17 or over on race day.
All finishers receive a hand-thrown Avebury8 mug. Refreshments and many cakes are available, with proceeds donated to the Wiltshire & Bath Air Ambulance. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
