Assault on Yonah Mountain

The Assault on Yonah Mountain is a vertical trail race located in Cleveland, Georgia. The event challenges participants to travel from the base to the summit of Yonah Mountain, covering a distance of approximately 2.5 miles. The course features an elevation gain of 1,650 vertical feet.

The event offers two main categories:

  • 2.5 Miler (Running/Hiking)
  • Ruck Division (Minimum weight of 15 lbs for women and 20 lbs for men)

The race is timed only for the ascent. Once participants reach the summit finish line, they must return to the parking area at their own pace, as there is no competitive timing for the descent. The course consists of three distinct sections. The bottom section begins on a gravel driveway and moves onto a single-track trail with gradual rocky terrain. The middle section contains technical rock gardens and steep grades, including a segment reaching a 35% grade near the old heli-pad. The final top section follows a gravel road for roughly 0.75 miles with a constant grade of 12-20% leading to the summit field.

A total time limit of 2 hours and 15 minutes is enforced for the ascent. There is also an intermediate cutoff at the first overlook/old heli-pad at 1 hour and 15 minutes. Participants who do not reach this point within the limit will be turned around. Grippy trail shoes are recommended due to technical rock sections and potential wet conditions. All finishers receive a medal, and custom awards are presented to the top three male and female finishers. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
