Ashtead 10 km and 2 km fun run 2027
The event is organised annually by Ashtead Running Group and raises funds for local charities. It is held with the permission of the Ashtead Common Rangers and the Corporation of the City of London.
The course runs entirely on rough tracks around Ashtead Common, a Site of Special Scientific Interest for its breeding birds and a National Nature Reserve because of decaying wood and the rare invertebrates that live there. The site includes two ancient Scheduled Monuments, a Roman villa and a triangular earthwork.
The route is not flat and is best described as undulating. A massed hornet attack affected runners in 2010, and organisers note they cannot guarantee the course will be hornet free. For safety, earphones are not permitted during the race.
Entry fees cover processing, a free raffle, licences and permits, and medical coverage. After race expenses, monies raised are passed to charity. The event encourages participants to use public transport, walking, cycling or car sharing; the train station is one minute's walk from the headquarters and start location.
