Art O'Neill Challenge : event summary

The Art O'Neill events depart from Dublin Castle and follow routes into County Wicklow. There are two headline options:

  • 62 km : the AON Challenge runs on road and open mountain from Dublin Castle to Glenmalure. The route crosses South Dublin, passes Stone Cross and continues over open mountain via Art’s Cross. The event allows both runners and walkers and is described as fully supported, with Dublin & Wicklow Mountain Rescue Team available should help be needed.
  • 25 km : the AON Pursuit is a nighttime road race from Dublin Castle to Kippure Estate. It is for runners only and does not allow walkers.

Both events limit entries to 200 places. The 2027 Challenge is scheduled for January 15, 2027. Entry to the 62 km Challenge is decided by a ballot: the ballot opens Monday 17 August 2026 and closes Monday 31 August 2026, with a €5 nonrefundable ballot fee plus Eventmaster fees. Ballot entrants are informed on Thursday 3 September 2026; successful entrants are charged the €175 event fee plus Eventmaster costs by 9 September 2026. The event fee is nonrefundable. Entries for the 25 km Pursuit open in early September 2026. Entries are not transferable. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
