Event Overview
The Area 51k is a trail running event held in Hernando, Mississippi. The races take place on the Area 51 Trail System, which consists of single-track paths maintained by the North Mississippi Trail Alliance. The course is located at 8900 US-Highway 51 and features winding wooded trails, flowing single-track sections, and varied terrain including climbs and descents.
Course Details
The race utilizes the Voyager trail loop. Participants encounter approximately 100 feet of elevation gain per mile on a course designed to be runnable. The distance options are based on completing multiple loops of the trail system:
- 51 km: A four-loop course on the trail system.
- 25 km: A two-loop course on the trail system.
The distances provided are approximate due to the nature of trail running. Runners pass the main aid station at the start and finish area multiple times throughout the event.
Amenities and Support
The event is supported by volunteers and includes well-marked trails. Participants have access to a main aid station at the start and finish area, along with an additional water and electrolyte station located on the back section of the loop.
