Appalachian 200 / 100
The Appalachian 200 / 100 is a long-distance running event held in Franklin, North Carolina. This point-to-point race has been developed over a decade and crosses through three states: South Carolina, North Carolina, and Georgia. The course utilizes four major trail systems, including the Foothills Trail, the Palmetto Trail, and the Bartram Trail. As part of the event, donations of trail work or financial support are provided to the associations that maintain these routes.
The event offers two primary distances:
- 200 Miler: Features 40,000 feet of elevation gain and loss with a 110-hour cutoff time.
- 100 Miler: Features 20,000 feet of elevation gain and loss with a 39-hour cutoff time.
The 100 Miler begins on the same day as the 200 Miler and follows the first 100 miles of the longer course. Runners in both categories are required to carry mandatory gear, which includes a water filter. The 200-mile route typically includes 10 to 14 aid stations, while the 100-mile route includes approximately 7 aid stations.
Participation for the inaugural year is limited to a total of 150 runners across both distances. Finishers in either category receive a buckle. Registration fees cover the entry and the finisher buckle, while other items are available for separate purchase. The event organizer maintains a policy where refunds, transfers, or deferrals are generally not offered, with specific exceptions for pregnancy, military service, or bereavement.
