About the race
The Antwerpse Kempentrail is a marked long distance walking event through the Voorkempen, the area between the Antwerp agglomeration and the Kempen. Routes pass through several nature areas, including the Kesselse Heide, Viersels Gebroekt, the Binnenbos, De Lovenhoek and the Zoerselbos. The start and finish are located at Evenementenhal Den Boomgaard in Ranst.
There are four distance options with signposted routes and kilometre markers:
- 55 km
- 35 km
- 25 km
- 15 km
Participation is by pre-registration only; same day entries are not possible. Each participant receives a participation badge, a marked route, warm coffee or tea and a croissant at the start, access to wide provisioning and rest points along the route, sanitary facilities, an EHBO post at the finish and a medal on completion. An après-walk bar is provided for arriving participants. There is no official time registration; the event is non competitive.
Practical notes from the organiser include a requirement for reflective clothing and/or a lamp, provision of a one year membership with Wandelsport Vlaanderen for non-members at a reduced fee, and that €1 of each registration fee is allocated to nature and nature experience.
