Anglezarke Amble Challenge

The Anglezarke Amble is a challenge walk that visits Rivington, Anglezarke and Turton Moors in an area known locally as "Little Lake District". The event is based at Rivington Village Hall, postcode BL6 7SE. Walkers may choose from two route lengths, while runners may only use the longer route. The overall time limit for completion is 10 hours.

Distances

  • 17 miles route for walkers.
  • 24 miles route for walkers and runners.

Refreshment points are provided on the routes. On the short route there is water and refreshments after 9.6 miles at Slipper Lowe. On the long route there are stops after 10.1 miles at Entwistle Barn and after 18 miles at Slipper Lowe. Participants must carry sufficient water to reach the next refreshment point. No mug means no drink at checkpoints.

Entrants must carry suitable clothing for winter moorland terrain and the following equipment: map, compass, whistle, torch, waterproofs, first aid kit, food, drink and a mug. Random equipment checks may be carried out and failure to comply can lead to disqualification.

Checkpoint procedures apply: retirements are accepted only at checkpoints, tallies must be handed to checkpoint officials, and missing checkpoints must be reported at the next checkpoint visited. Dogs are not allowed. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
