Amatikulu Trail Run - Amatikulu Trails, KwaGingindlovu
The Amatikulu Trail Run takes place at The Hatchery on the Amatikulu estuary and uses boat crossings as part of the course. Runners cross the estuary by boat to reach start sections inside the Amatikulu Nature Reserve, and some races include additional boat shuttles across the Nyoni River during the route. Boats carry up to 12 runners, operate every 5 to 10 minutes, and depart when full; crossings may cause wait times that can affect competitive race positions.
Trails run through coastal grasslands and patches of indigenous vegetation with potential sightings of zebra, giraffe, antelope species, and a variety of birds. The event setting includes rustic accommodation and camping at a former prawn hatchery on the lagoon shore.
Courses are loop formats and are offered in multiple distances with differing elevation and aid station support. There is no compulsory kit requirement listed and courses are subject to change. Limited parking is noted near the venue, and carpooling is recommended where possible.
