Ainos Mountain Marathon : event summary
Ainos Mountain Marathon is a mountain running event on the island of Kefalonia organized by the Cultural Association of Pyrgi "To Pyrgi" with support from local authorities and partners. The event takes place on Mount Ainos and uses trails that cross the main ridge with wide views of surrounding islands and mainland mountains.
Distances offered:
- 34 km mountain marathon with 1,700 m total positive elevation gain
- 12.1 km race
- 5 km fun running and walking race
The course crosses technical singletrack and steep terrain and is intended for experienced mountain runners. The event includes seven aid stations along the routes. Race weekend features a pasta party the evening before, free food for athletes after the race, and the following day free transport and guided visits to the Melissani and Drogorati caves offered by the Municipality of Sami and the Community of Pyrgi. Transport offers from ferry companies include a 50 percent discount on some ferry tickets and free vehicle and passenger transfers from specific ports for participants. The first 50 athletes are offered free accommodation at several local hotels.
The start and meeting point is the village of Pyrgi at the church square of Agioi Pantes. Race administration opens the day before and on race morning for athlete services and bus transfers to the start. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
