African Game Lodge Trail Run
The African Game Lodge Trail Run is the final event in the Montagu Winter Trail Running Series, held at African Game Lodge Montagu in Breede River DC, Western Cape. The venue includes accommodation, restaurants, a pool and a play area for children, and the property supports wildlife such as giraffe, zebra, gemsbuck, kudu, eland and smaller species.
The event offers three off-road distances with measured ascent figures and staffed waterstations. Routes run through karoo veld, past a dam and through Slagkloof, a narrow hand-cut kloof with notable vegetation and rock features.
- 5.7 km Fun Run, 194 m ascent, one waterstation
- 11.8 km Trail Run, 307 m ascent, two waterstations
- 17.8 km Trail Run, 425 m ascent, two waterstations
The 11.8 km route passes a dam and climbs toward Slagkloof, offering wide valley and mountain views when exiting the kloof. The longer route follows similar terrain with additional distance and two watering points. Trails are described as largely non-technical and maintained in places; participants may encounter both open veld and narrow kloof sections.
This event is part of a six-venue series. Entrants who register for all six events receive a series discount of R300, collect a set of six medals, and qualifying series entrants receive a running cap valued at R150.
