About the race
African Game Lodge Trail Run is the final event of the Montagu Winter Trail Run Series, staged at African Game Lodge and routed through the Slagkloof. The event features running across manicured trails and good gravel roads with scenic views over valleys, hills and distant Montagu. Wildlife commonly seen along the routes includes zebra, giraffe, eland, kudu and gemsbuck, and runners pass animal water holes on some sections.
The programme offers multiple distance options with measured ascent values and distinct route highlights. Food and drinks are available for sale at the lodge, and parking is ample at the event location. Timing and medals apply for specified running distances; walkers receive participation and water points and may request a medal for an additional fee. The venue setting includes the lodge restaurant and trails that run past notable features such as Lion King Rock and narrow kloof sections.
Distances:
- 4.8 km Fun Run, 86 m ascent
- 12 km Trail Run, 307 m ascent
- 17.8 km Trail Run, 425 m ascent
The longest course is described as the event grand finale and passes two watering holes and the infamous Slagkloof. The fun run route is newer with reduced climbing and is suitable for walking or a less steep run. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
