4sta Hike
The 4sta Hike is an annual event held in the Loud Thunder Forest Preserve near Illinois City and Andalusia, Illinois. Located along the banks of the Mississippi River, the event utilizes the preserve's trail network. Participants navigate a 1 mile loop for a total duration of 4 hours. The objective is to complete as many loops as possible within the designated time limit.
The course features a variety of terrain including smooth single track, rocks, roots, downed trees, and steep gradients reaching up to 48%. While multiple course options exist, the event typically utilizes a loop with approximately 304 feet of elevation gain and loss per lap. In the event of specific weather conditions, an alternative loop with 230 feet of elevation gain and loss may be used. The terrain is characterized by rolling hills and provides opportunities to observe local wildlife such as deer, turkeys, coyotes, and snakes.
A small aid station is positioned at the start and finish area of the loop. Because the course is a short loop, participants often set up chairs or pop-up tents to manage their own recovery and nutrition. All loops must be finished by the end of the four-hour period to be counted toward a participant's total.

Registration includes a shirt and post-race food. Awards are presented to the male and female participants who complete the highest number of loops.
