About the race
The Mt Feathertop event is Day 2 of the Bright Alpine Climb 4 Peaks. The route starts at Tavare Park, Harrietville and climbs to the summit of Mt Feathertop via Bungalow Spur Track, passing Federation Hut en route. The course distance is 12.0 km with approximately 1650 m of vertical climb. In adverse weather the course may be shortened to finish at Federation Hut at the 11 km mark.
The event uses a staggered start. Participants self-select a start within a designated one-hour window at five minute intervals; competitors seeking overall titles must use the final start period. All runners must check in at the start line so their start is recorded, and must check in again at Event HQ on return so organisers know they are off the mountain. If a participant intends to descend by an alternative route they must notify the race director before leaving the mountain.
There is no organised food or water on the course; water is available from the Federation Hut tank but it is untreated and should be used with caution. Participants should be self-sufficient for the expected duration on course and manage their own nutrition and hydration. Facilities at the start area include public toilets and portable toilets; local parking restrictions apply so vehicles should be parked as directed near Tavare Park. A coffee van will operate near Race HQ on the morning of the event.
Volunteer roles requested include sweepers, de-marking crew, general marshals and registration helpers. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
