26 x 1-Mile Marathon Relay
The event is a relay composed of twenty-six one-mile legs held on a one-mile loop at The Woodlands. Teams may be formed with as many as 13 members or as few as 6, and they compete for a collective marathon time. Each team provides its own baton; the baton may be any item chosen by the team.
The relay route runs on a trail loop at the Woodlands Stables and includes a dirt path with some paved road sections. Entrants are directed to enter through the large gate across from the trolley portal and follow posted signs. Teams may set up tents and bring snacks on site; grills and other on-site cooking are not allowed.
Each team selects a runner, distinct from the runner of the final mile leg, to complete an additional 0.2 mile finishing segment that completes the team’s official marathon distance. That finishing runner carries a team-made torch; the torch should not be lit.
The Woodlands is a 54-acre historic landscape described as an 18th-century English pleasure garden and a 19th-century rural cemetery. It is used for education and community programs and is designated a National Historic Landmark District. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
