12 Hours of Sunlight
This event is a twelve hour ski endurance challenge held on January 23, 2027 in Glenwood Springs, Colorado. Competitors aim to complete as many laps as possible on the Sun King uphill route, a 1.3 mile climb that gains 1,800 vertical feet on each ascent. Participants skin up and ski down repeatedly over the twelve hours.
Racing formats include individual competitors, two person teams, and four person teams. Two person teams must alternate laps to qualify for a final result. Four person teams must submit a lap order they will follow during the race. If a racer drops out or the required order is broken, the team total laps will be tallied at that point.
Every racer receives a bib. A hydration and fueling station will be located at the start and finish area. Two drop bag zones are available: an outdoor zone at the start and finish, and an indoor zone in the lodge about 250 feet away. Racer swag is distributed after the race and top individuals and teams receive prizes and lift tickets for the 2025/26 season.
Required equipment includes a headlamp, a helmet, and downhill rated skis or a splitboard. Helmets must be worn on every downhill segment. Snowshoes and uphill only skis are not permitted. There will be no race day registration; registration opens October 8, 2026 and closes January 22, 2027. Racers under 18 must have a parent, coach, or guardian present for the entire race.
