Event overview

The Highland 8-hour Challenge is a timed trail event on 07 March 2026 organised by NU Limits Running Ltd. Participants complete as many 4.366 mile loops as possible within an eight-hour limit. Each lap has approximately 570 ft of ascent and the route is on trail paths around Glenmore; a GPX file is provided for the full route details. Cut-off rules apply for beginning and completing a final lap: the cut-off to begin a final lap is at 7:59:59 hours and the cut-off for final lap completion is at 9:00:00 hours. Runners wear an electronic wrist device that records the start and finish of each lap and provides a final lap count.

Logistics and rules

Basecamp is marked on the event GPX map and can be used for kit storage. Each participant may set up one tent in the Basecamp area; three 6 x 3 meter gazebos will be available. Hayfield Car Park will be used for participants and parking fees are covered by the organiser. Spectators are welcome at Basecamp.

Mandatory items include sufficient nutrition and hydration (minimum 500 ml fluid per hour and 60-90 g carbohydrates per hour of running), appropriate clothing for weather, dry clothes for after the event, and a mobile phone. Timing uses HuTags on velcro wrist straps; tags must not be covered and must be returned to Basecamp Marshals to finalise results and collect finisher items. Refunds are available up to two months before the event; event transfers are allowed up to one month before; participant transfers up to one week before.
